Thea Atladóttir is a freelance contemporary dancer, performer and choreographer currently based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She is a native of Reykjavík, Iceland, but was born in Bologna, Italy and lived there the first nine years of her life.
She started dancing at a young age but in 2010 her studies became more serious as she enrolled in the National Ballet School of Iceland. There the focus was mostly on classical ballet and pointe work. In 2016 she competed in the Nordic-Baltic classical solo competition in Falun, Sweden. She took part in classical and neoclassical school productions such as Swan Lake, Dances at a Gathering, Serenade, Who Cares? and Coppélia. At the school she also had great contemporary dance teachers who lit up her passion for contemporary dance.
When Thea graduated The National Ballet School of Iceland in 2016 she decided to continue with her dance studies abroad. She enrolled in Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance in Munich, Germany.
At Iwanson, she worked with great dancers such as Hannes Langolf, Alessandro Sousa Pereira, Heidi Weiss and Caroline Finn. She also had the pleasure of learning works by Pia Fossdal, Minka-Marie Heiß, Johannes Härtl, Nadine Gerspacher, Isabella Blum, Yael Cibulski, Katja Wachter and Jessica Iwanson that she performed at respected venues such as theatres Gasteig, Kranhalle and Schwere Reiter.
In 2018 Thea choreographed a piece for the annual student showcase platform at Iwanson. Her piece, GALA, was selected to be shown again at the evening iChance at Gasteig, and then again at Theaterakademie August Everding.
That same year she got a scholarship to attend The International Contemporary Dance Workshop in Prague.
Thea graduated with her Diploma/BFA from Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance in July 2019.
She got offered to continue working with choreographer Katja Wachter with whom she performed in Munich in September 2019 and June 2020.
Thea has now moved to Rotterdam to continue her dance career.
